Objective
The objective of the KSU SMIF is to provide the students in the Michael J. Coles College of Business hands-on experience in the world of portfolio management and investing. This will also advance the Michael J. Coles College of Business as one of the leading business schools in Georgia.
Funding
The Henssler Financial Group will provide initial funding through a temporary restricted gift for $100,000.
Oversight
Nominated by the KSU foundation in consultation with the Michael J. Coles College of Business, the Investment Advisory Board [IAB] will oversee and evaluate the performance of the fund. The IAB will be comprised of students, faculty, and members of the business community.
Investments Strategy
The focus of the investment policy is Strategic Asset Allocation. Stocks will be selected after the student research groups have done extensive research on the fundamentals of the firm and the sectors.
Benefits
The SMIF will provide students with hands-on asset management experience and the opportunity to interact with members of the financial business community. In addition, students will receive academic credit for their work with the SMIF. The Michael J. Coles College of Business will benefit from having a program comparable to the top business schools in the country and will be more attractive to the best and brightest students.
Risks
The value of the fund will be subject to market fluctuations. The fund managers will mitigate risk through diversification and modern risk management techniques.
